About the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) is an independent organization established in 2007 by the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) and UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) to foster increased knowledge, understanding, and adoption of sustainable tourism practices.
The GSTC network represents a broad spectrum of global tourism stakeholders, including international tour operators, government bodies, national tourism boards, and global hospitality brands.
The council has established the GSTC Criteria—universal standards representing the baseline requirements that any tourism enterprise should achieve to attain social, economic, cultural, and environmental sustainability.
